The Color Purple...

No, not the book/movie....it is the color of Matthew's new belt in karate. He tested on Friday night and earned a purple belt! Isn't it pretty? LOL! This is a big move, the next belts (blue, red, black/white stripe & black) are much more rigorous & difficult to achieve and purple is sort of the "crossover" belt. It will likely take a good year to earn the next belt...and that is perfectly fine, he still has muscle tone, strength & coordination issues he is working on, getting stronger, developing and there is plenty of time for progressing in karate. Up until this belt, you learn & perfect one form (a combination of stances & moves..strikes, blocks, kicks, etc.) to test for each belt. BUT, now at the next level there are several forms to learn & perfect for each belt not just one. Plus you can't slack off on the old forms for previous belts, you have to practice them all. But we're very proud of him!
