The Blessing of the Animals...

Today our church celebrated St. Francis of Assissi's feast day with the annual Blessing of the Animals.

So, we packed up the guinea pigs & the boys & I headed over to get our furry little cavies blessed! It was quite a menagerie - dogs, cats, parrots, hermit crab, hamsters, other guinea pigs....but all behaved nicely (I guess they somehow new they were getting a blessing...and a treat!). Matthew also received a very nice St. Francis medal & there were little goody bags of pet-specific treats for most pets (but we brought our own lettuce since we didn't think they'd have guinea pig food!)

Here are some pics of the Blessing! Thank you, St. Francis!

I was reading something about St. Fracis to the girls this morning, and it said that he is the patron saint of "animals and birds." They said, "Aren't birds animals, too?" Good point.
